CUA911 Celebrates 24/7 Day by Honoring Around-the-Clock Service of 9-1-1 Professionals

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 24, 2025

Charlottesville, VA — The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Emergency Communications Center (CUA911) is proud to recognize the critical role of its 9-1-1 call-takers, dispatchers, and emergency communications professionals in honor of 24/7 Day, a national day of recognition for essential workers who serve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

CUA911 is spotlighting each of its four operational platoons today and tomorrow, highlighting the dedicated individuals who work nights, weekends, holidays, and every hour in between to ensure lifesaving help is always just a text or call away.

“Every call we take is someone else’s worst moment. Our team is the calm behind the storm 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to ensure help gets to you when needed most,” said Heather Hilliard, Executive Director of CUA911. “24/7 Day is a chance for us to recognize our professionals who serve the community’s emergency response in the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and the University of Virginia.”

The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle ECC handles over 200,000 emergency and non-emergency calls each year, serving community members and visitors of the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and the University of Virginia. Its 24/7 operation supports police, fire, and EMS agencies across the region, both through emergency dispatch services and maintaining critical public safety infrastructure like the regional radio and computer aided dispatch systems.

CUA911 will be sharing behind-the-scenes photos on its social media channels, offering the community a look into the dispatch center and the people who power it.

“I am incredibly proud of this team, who each give their best every single day to work together and keep this region safe,” said Hilliard.

Media are invited to request interviews with a dispatcher to help tell the story of 9-1-1 in the Charlottesville-Albemarle region.
